Queensway, a tube station in London is situated just within the limit of Westminster City and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It’s located at junction of Bayswater Road and Queensway and in the northwest of Kensington Gardens. Queensway station is situated between Lancaster Gate on the east and on the west lays the Notting Hill Gate. It is in zone 1 travelcard. Queensway Asian Escorts and Queensway Oriental Escorts are some of the most popular in London.
The station was opened on 30th July, 1900 and it was named as Queen’s Road at that time. Later, in 9th September, 1946 it was renamed as Queensway.
The eastern cross-over Queensway station allows trains from west Ruislip or Ealing Broadway to terminate over here. There is hardly anytime on which the cross-over is used. The station was closed on 8th May, 2005 for modernization construction work and it was re-opened in 14th June, 2006. The modernization work mainly focused on replacement of the two station’s lifts, which were very old and in a very bad condition. In addition, to the lift replacements the station was modernizing by fitting original lamps’ replicas on the facade. The new tiles were also fitted on the platforms.
The private construction and maintenance contractors, Metronet, was provided a deadline as May 9th, 2006 to complete the entire construction work but in the failure to do so, they were given a second deadline which required the work to get completed by 12th June and the deadline was again not met. As a result of this the Managing Director Tim O’Toole, the London Underground, issued a press release with harsh word against Metronet. The station, however, was finally reopened on 14th June 2006.
